Neeraj Chopra Eyes Lausanne Diamond League to Keep Finals Hopes Alive

Indian Olympic and world champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is set to compete in the Lausanne Diamond League on August 21, with the event playing a crucial role in his bid to qualify for the Diamond League Finals. The finals are scheduled to be held in Brussels on September 4 and 5, and Chopra is yet to secure his place. After missing the Rabat and Rome meets, he finished fourth in the Doha Diamond League with a throw of 85.69 metres and currently occupies seventh place in the standings with five points.

To qualify for the finals, Chopra must deliver a strong performance in either the Lausanne meet or the Zurich Diamond League on August 27. The Indian star is expected to face intense competition from Arshad Nadeem (Pakistan), Ramesh Pathirage (Sri Lanka), Anderson Peters (Grenada), Julian Weber (Germany), Keshorn Walcott (Trinidad and Tobago) and Curtis Thompson (USA). Chopra recently claimed a silver medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games with a throw of 85.83 metres, while Sri Lanka’s Ramesh Pathirage secured the gold medal with an impressive 89.75-metre effort.
