India added another gold medal to its Asian Games boxing tally as Parveen Hooda produced a determined performance in the women’s 65kg category. Hooda defeated Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien-chin 3-2 in a closely fought final to claim the gold. The bout went down to the wire, with Hooda holding her nerve in the final round and edging the contest on a split decision.
Hailing from Haryana’s Rurki area, Hooda began boxing at a young age and made her mark at the 2019 South Asian Games by winning gold. She later earned medals at major international competitions. After facing a suspension that cost her the bronze medal from the 2022 Asian Games, Hooda made a strong comeback and reached the top of the podium in Aichi-Nagoya. Her Asian Games gold marks a major milestone in her boxing career.
