India retained the men’s cricket gold medal at the Asian Games with a 19-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in a closely contested final. India posted a strong total of 211 for six, with Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma making impressive half-centuries. Pakistan responded aggressively during the chase and kept the contest alive until the final stages, but India’s bowlers worked together to restrict them to 192 for six.
Speaking after the match, wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson said the gold medal was earned through considerable hard work. He credited the experience of the Indian team for helping the players stay composed and manage their energy and motivation even when there were no regular matches or practice sessions. Samson also said fielding an experienced ‘A’ team for the Asian Games proved valuable, particularly in a high-pressure final against Pakistan. He added that representing India at the Asian Games was a special opportunity and that the team focused on adapting to the situation without allowing pressure to affect its performance.
