Indian hockey official Gurinder Singh Sangha, who was appointed as the umpire manager for the hockey competition at the Asian Games in Nagoya, has been sent back from Japan following multiple complaints of alleged sexual misconduct, according to reports. Sources cited by PTI and other media outlets said complaints were made by a female hockey official from Malaysia and a hotel staff member in Nagoya. Sangha has not publicly responded to the allegations so far.
The latest episode is not the first complaint involving Sangha. A female umpire had filed a complaint against him during the 2025 Hockey India League in Ranchi, following which Hockey India constituted a three-member committee to investigate the matter. Hockey India sources said the inquiry did not find substantial evidence at the time. The Asian Hockey Federation appoints the umpires and technical officials for hockey at the Asian Games, and Hockey India has said it will consider further action after receiving the federation’s report on the latest allegations.
