India's men's ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill and women's team opener Shafali Verma have won the ICC Player of the Month awards for September. This marks the fifth time Gill has received the honour, placing him among the select players to achieve the feat after West Indies cricketer Hayley Matthews. Gill's consistent performances have once again earned him recognition on the international cricket stage.
Shafali Verma, 22, delivered an impressive performance in the Women's Asia Cup, finishing as the tournament's leading run-scorer with 360 runs and also taking six wickets. She had previously won the ICC Player of the Month award in November last year. This is the fifth occasion on which players from the same country have won the men's and women's awards simultaneously, and the third time for India. Jasprit Bumrah and Smriti Mandhana achieved the feat in 2024, followed by Abhishek Sharma and Smriti Mandhana in 2025.
