India’s ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill and women’s team opener Shafali Verma have been named the ICC Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month for September. Gill has won the monthly honour for a record fifth time, becoming only the second player after West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews to receive the award on five occasions. His latest achievement further strengthens his place among the leading performers in international cricket.
Shafali Verma earned the women’s award following an outstanding performance in the Women’s Asia Cup, where the 22-year-old finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 360 runs and also claimed six wickets. She had previously won the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award in November last year. This marks only the fifth occasion that players from the same country have won the men’s and women’s awards in the same month. For India, it is the third such instance, following Jasprit Bumrah and Smriti Mandhana in 2024, and Abhishek Sharma and Smriti Mandhana in 2025.
