Team India has gained confidence ahead of the first Test against Sri Lanka by securing a win in the warm-up game. Head coach Gautam Gambhir had earlier said that India would be ready to respond to Sri Lanka’s challenges from the opening day, and the team showed encouraging signs in both batting and bowling. Captain Shubman Gill, who had been dealing with a finger injury, returned to batting and looked comfortable. Yashasvi Jaiswal also bounced back with a half-century in the second innings, while Devdutt Padikkal made a strong case for the No. 3 position with an impressive century. Ravindra Jadeja, returning to Test cricket after a long gap, contributed with both bat and ball, scoring a half-century and taking four wickets.
However, India still have a few areas to address before the Test begins. The young spinners, including Manav Suthar and Saransh Jain, need to improve their effectiveness on spin-friendly surfaces, while Kuldeep Yadav provided valuable support with two wickets. Among the pacers, Gurnoor Brar was the most impressive, whereas Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna had relatively quiet outings. Akib Nabi also went wicketless. The wicketkeeping department is another concern, with Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel failing to convert their starts into substantial scores. Pant’s cautious approach was encouraging, but his dismissal while attempting big shots highlighted the need for greater consistency.
