India began their five-match T20I series against England today, but 15 year old opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi was once again left out of the playing XI. After missing opportunities in the Ireland T20I series despite the poor form of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, fans expected Vaibhav to make his debut in the opening match at Chester le Street. However, the team management retained the same batting unit, leaving the youngster on the bench once again.
India made two changes to their bowling attack for the first T20I.
Prince Yadav and Suryansh Shedge, who featured in the Ireland series, were dropped, while Ravi Bishnoi and Varun Chakravarthy returned to the side, with Varun making his comeback after recovering from injury. India won the toss and elected to bat first. India Playing XI: Shreyas Iyer (C), Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan (W), Tilak Varma, Harshit Rana, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy.
