

India A youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi played a sensational innings in the Tri-Series final against Sri Lanka A at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on June 21. After Sri Lanka A won the toss and chose to bowl, the 15 year old batter unleashed an aggressive assault, scoring 94 runs from just 29 balls with 10 fours and 8 sixes at a strike rate of 324.13. He also reached his half-century in only 11 balls, creating a new List A record.
Vaibhav’s innings came after the Super Over defeat in the league stage, during which Sri Lankan players had sledged him. He answered the criticism with his bat in the final and narrowly missed a century. He was dismissed while attempting another big shot off captain Sahan Arachchige. India A had qualified for the final with 4 points, while Sri Lanka A topped the table with 6 points. Afghanistan A finished with 2 points and failed to reach the final. The previous two meetings between India A and Sri Lanka A had ended with one win each.
