AP Leads in AI-Powered Tax Administration

Andhra Pradesh is emerging as a frontrunner in the use of artificial intelligence and data analytics for tax administration. A team from the GST Council Secretariat, led by Additional Secretary Pankaj Kumar Singh and Joint Secretary D.P. Mishra, visited the state Commercial Taxes Department office in Vijayawada to study the AI-driven systems being implemented by the department. Officials presented AI-based dashboards covering registrations, returns, revenue, professional tax, tax arrears, audits, inspections and scrutiny. The revenue and e-way bill dashboards particularly drew the team’s attention.

The department explained that e-way bill data is being used to assess SGST cash payments and IGST settlements and strengthen revenue monitoring. Officials also demonstrated AI-based report and dashboard generation, the use of GST data for quick GSDP assessments, and a knowledge hub containing sector-wise information. AI is being integrated across tax administration, from return scrutiny and audit selection to identifying irregularities, issuing notices and examining taxpayer responses. A legal AI module connected to the Andhra Pradesh Online Legal Case Management System was also showcased. GST Council Additional Secretary Pankaj Kumar Singh appreciated the state’s efforts, describing its use of AI and data analytics as a model for other states and noting its potential to strengthen tax administration and revenue collection.
