US-based tech giant Google is facing increasing challenges as key talent exits amid intense competition in the artificial intelligence sector. With rising pressure from AI startups like OpenAI and Anthropic, several important researchers involved in Google’s Gemini model development are reportedly leaving the company. Recent reports suggest more departures may follow, raising concerns among investors.
Key researchers Jonas Adler and Alexander Pretsel, who contributed to Google’s AI coding and training systems, are set to join Anthropic. Earlier, Nobel laureate John Jumper and researcher Noam Shazeer also moved to competing AI firms. These exits have led to concerns about Google falling behind in AI innovation, reflected in a 1.2% drop in Alphabet shares. Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis acknowledged the intense competition for AI talent in the industry.
