Meta’s AI-powered smart glasses are facing growing criticism over privacy concerns. The possibility of taking photos and recording videos without the knowledge or consent of others has raised concerns in several countries, including India. Reports of women being secretly filmed have gone viral, prompting some pubs and restaurants in the UK to impose restrictions on the use of the glasses.
The issue has also reportedly led to a complaint by the HateAid organisation. Meta, however, maintains that an LED light turns on during recording and that privacy safeguards are in place. The controversy has renewed debate over how emerging technologies can be used while protecting individual privacy.
