Twitter co-founder and BitChat creator Jack Dorsey has announced that the app is being removed from Apple’s India App Store. He stated that Apple removed the offline messaging application following a demand from the Indian government. The decision was taken because the government considers certain aspects of BitChat illegal in India.
The central government had ordered the removal of the Bluetooth-based app in July itself. The directions were issued in the backdrop of protests organised by the CJP against paper leaks. The government said that even when network restrictions are imposed, BitChat allows users to exchange information, and there is a risk of it being misused by terrorists, cyber criminals and anti-national elements. Therefore, it demanded that the app be removed from the App Store. In this background, Apple has removed it from the Indian App Store. However, the app will continue to remain available in other countries.
