WhatsApp users on Android and iOS may now have a new way to determine whether they have been blocked by another user. According to reports, the platform's encryption verification feature could offer clues about a potential block without requiring users to send messages or make calls. Traditionally, users relied on indicators such as missing profile photos, unanswered calls, or messages stuck on a single check mark, but these signs are not always accurate.
The encryption verification feature, originally introduced to confirm end-to-end encryption protection, can be accessed through the contact information section of a chat. If WhatsApp repeatedly fails to verify encryption automatically and suggests alternative verification methods, it could indicate that the contact has blocked the user. However, WhatsApp has not officially confirmed this method, and experts suggest treating it only as a possible indicator rather than definitive proof.
