WhatsApp users across India and several other countries experienced unexpected disruptions on Tuesday after many accounts were temporarily placed "Under Review" for up to 24 hours. During this period, affected users were unable to access key features such as messaging and voice calls. Responding to complaints on social media, Meta clarified that the review process is part of its efforts to identify accounts involved in misuse, spam, or suspicious activity. The company said it is working to restore normal access as quickly as possible.
Meta also outlined several activities that could trigger an account review or even suspension. These include using unofficial versions of WhatsApp such as GB WhatsApp, WhatsApp Plus, or YoWhatsApp, sending large volumes of identical messages, using third-party automation tools or bots, receiving repeated reports or blocks from other users, sharing illegal, hateful, or explicit content, rapidly forwarding messages, using data-scraping tools, and sending bulk business messages without the official WhatsApp Business API. Users are advised to follow WhatsApp's official policies to avoid account restrictions.
