Major Deal Sees Change in Pizza Hut Ownership

Global pizza giant Pizza Hut is set for a major ownership change as parent company Yum Brands has decided to sell the iconic chain after nearly six decades. The deal is valued at $2.7 billion (around ₹25,476 crore), driven by declining sales and rising competition in the global fast-food market. While Yum Brands continues to focus on strong performers like KFC and Taco Bell, Pizza Hut has struggled with weak performance in recent years.

The global operations (excluding China) will be acquired by private equity firm LongRange Capital for about ₹14,153 crore, while Yum China Holdings will separately take over the China business for ₹11,323 crore. Founded in 1958 in Kansas, Pizza Hut once dominated the pizza industry but later fell behind due to changing consumer preferences and digital food delivery competition. The company now aims for a revival under new ownership with modern technology and updated store formats.
