The issue of fee reimbursement in the state has once again become a major topic of discussion. With the new academic year approaching, students and parents are facing confusion over fee payments for admissions into colleges. The situation has been complicated by government regulations on one side and legal petitions filed by private college managements on the other.
Around 12 lakh students enrolled in professional courses such as engineering, pharmacy, MBA, MCA, law, BEd, degree, and PG courses are applying for fee reimbursement and scholarships. The government spends nearly ₹2,500 crore annually on this scheme, but due to pending dues over the years, arrears have reportedly reached around ₹8,000 crore.
The government has decided to credit fee reimbursement directly into students’ bank accounts instead of routing it through colleges. However, private college managements have approached the High Court challenging the policy, creating uncertainty. While the court has earlier allowed colleges to collect fees directly from students, the latest legal developments and pending hearings have left students and parents waiting for clarity on admissions and payments.
