The number of B.Tech seats in Telangana is likely to increase again this year, with the final decision resting with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Last year, engineering colleges in the state had a total of 1,25,345 seats under both convenor and management quotas. This year, several colleges applied to the AICTE for new courses and additional intake in existing programs. AICTE has reportedly approved nearly 15,000 additional seats, but the state government must issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) before they can be implemented. College managements have also approached public representatives seeking approval for the increased intake.
However, the government is carefully evaluating the proposal. Officials point out that nearly 70% of existing engineering seats are already concentrated in Computer Science and IT-related branches. With growing interest in core engineering disciplines, the government is assessing whether further expansion of CSE-related seats is necessary. The Technical Education Department has sought detailed reports from universities regarding seat demand, admission trends, infrastructure, faculty strength, and academic quality. A final report will be submitted to the Chief Minister. Even if approved, the additional seats are likely to be available only during the second phase of counselling. The first phase of counselling begins on June 19, while web options can be exercised from June 25.
