US President Donald Trump reaffirmed America's strong strategic partnership with India, stating that the United States would stand by India in the event of any external aggression. Speaking after his bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France, Trump described India as a major global power and praised Modi's leadership. He expressed optimism about a future trade agreement between the two nations and said that as long as he remained in the White House, India would have a trusted friend in the United States. Trump also announced plans to visit India, although he did not specify a timeline.
During the discussions, Prime Minister Modi raised concerns about the safety of Indian sailors operating in West Asian waters amid ongoing regional tensions. He stressed the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for global trade and ensuring freedom of navigation. Modi also highlighted the recent deaths of three Indian sailors in US military strikes and sought enhanced safety measures for maritime workers. Trump acknowledged the issue and assured cooperation. The US President further praised Modi, calling him a skilled negotiator and a leader deeply committed to India's interests.
