According to Santosh Janardhan, Vice President of Infrastructure at Meta, the upcoming facility will not serve only Indian users but will become part of the company’s global network of interconnected data centres. Developed in partnership with Reliance Industries, the 168-megawatt facility is expected to support a wide range of AI workloads and digital services used by billions of people worldwide.
Janardhan emphasized that India has emerged as an attractive destination for global technology investments due to its strong infrastructure ecosystem, skilled workforce, and growing digital economy. He noted that modern AI infrastructure depends on factors such as land, power, network connectivity, cooling systems, and engineering talent, all of which India offers at scale. Meta also highlighted India's vast user base and innovation ecosystem as key reasons behind the investment.
The company views the Jamnagar facility as a strategic component of its global computing network, capable of supporting platforms such as Instagram, WhatsApp, and future AI-driven services. Meta further announced partnerships with clean energy providers to support nearly 1 GW of renewable energy generation, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable technology infrastructure.
