Ram Charan's much-awaited pan-India film Peddi, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, hit theatres worldwide on June 4 amid massive expectations. Produced on a grand scale with a budget of nearly ₹350 crore, the film opened to mixed reviews from audiences and critics. While Ram Charan's powerful performance has received widespread appreciation, the film's rural backdrop and distinctive characterization appear to have limited its appeal among pan-India audiences. After a strong start during the opening weekend, the film witnessed a noticeable slowdown at the box office.
Although Peddi continues to maintain a decent run in the Telugu states, its performance in non-Telugu markets has been underwhelming. The film reportedly recorded a worldwide theatrical business of around ₹218 crore but has recovered only about half of that amount so far. Nearly 80% of its collections have come from the Telugu-speaking regions. Overseas markets and Bollywood territories have emerged as major areas of concern, while Tamil Nadu and Kerala are nearing the end of their theatrical runs. Karnataka, where the film did substantial pre-release business, is also expected to incur significant losses. Meanwhile, Nizam remains the strongest territory, while Vizag, East Godavari and West Godavari are nearing break-even levels.
