Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has strongly criticized the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, which demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Joshi alleged that a major conspiracy was underway to create chaos in the national capital. He said that if the CJP wanted to enter politics, it should openly announce the formation of a political party. He also said that abusing the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the Election Commission was neither democratic nor part of Indian culture.
The BJP described the CJP protest as a “flop show,” alleging that it was intended to create disorder in the national capital. The party said that the detention of hundreds of young protesters and several political leaders by Delhi Police was a victory for democracy over mob rule. BJP leader Sambit Patra also accused Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of competing to claim leadership of the campaign against the CEC and alleged irregularities in the SIR process. He further alleged that a struggle for political dominance had emerged between the two parties, describing it as internal conflict among forces creating disorder.
