The Telangana government has announced a major reform in the distribution of Post-Matric Scholarships by introducing the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system from the 2026-27 academic year. Under the new policy, scholarship funds, including tuition fee and maintenance allowance components, will be credited directly to students’ bank accounts instead of educational institutions. The initiative is expected to benefit SC, ST, BC, EBC, Minority and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) students across the state.
According to the newly issued guidelines, students must pay their college fees within seven days of receiving the scholarship amount. Failure to do so may invite strict action. Only students belonging to families with an annual income of less than ₹2.5 lakh will be eligible for the scheme. Aadhaar-linked bank accounts have been made mandatory, and the entire application and verification process will be conducted online through the ePASS portal. The government has also stipulated a minimum attendance requirement of 75 percent for continued eligibility. Additionally, disabled students will receive an extra 10 percent allowance under the revised framework.
