The murder of Pune-based entrepreneur Ketan Agarwal has triggered a heated gender debate on social media, with discussions centering around "men versus women." Police investigations have alleged that Ketan was pushed to his death from Lohagad Fort by his fiancée, Siya Goyal, and her alleged lover. Following these revelations, many social media users began debating the issue of crimes committed by women, prompting reactions from actor-director Rahul Ravindran and his wife, singer Chinmayi Sripaada.
A social media user tagged Rahul Ravindran, who recently directed the female-centric film The Girlfriend starring Rashmika Mandanna, and urged him to make a film highlighting atrocities committed by women against men in light of the Ketan Agarwal case.
Responding to the post, Rahul said, "I don't see this as women committing atrocities against men. I see it as a horrific crime committed by a few psychopaths who happen to be women." He explained that The Girlfriend was made to reflect the systemic discrimination and oppression many women face in society. According to him, individual crimes committed by people with criminal mindsets should not be equated with broader societal or systemic issues.
Chinmayi later shared a screenshot of Rahul's response on social media, expressing her support. In her caption, she wrote, "Read this. If you choose to get married, marry someone with a mindset like Rahul's. Otherwise, stay single and live peacefully—but don't suffer. That's my only advice. The rest is your choice and your life."Rahul Ravindran's argument that crimes should not be viewed through the lens of gender, along with Chinmayi's endorsement of his views, has since sparked widespread discussion across social media platforms.
