

The much-awaited FIFA World Cup got off to an exciting start as hosts Mexico national football team secured a convincing 2-0 victory over South Africa national football team in the opening match of Group A. Playing in front of a packed crowd in Mexico City, the hosts displayed attacking intent right from the opening whistle and took control of the contest early.
Mexico opened the scoring in the ninth minute through star forward Julián Quiñones, who continued his impressive goal-scoring form. The hosts doubled their advantage in the second half when Raúl Jiménez found the back of the net. The match also witnessed disciplinary drama, with the referee issuing three red cards. Two South African players and one Mexican player were sent off, forcing South Africa to continue the game with just nine men as Mexico comfortably sealed all three points.
