Ford Motor Company has decided to rehire experienced former employees after its AI-based automated quality systems failed to meet expectations. The company reportedly brought back around 350 engineers and experts over the past three years to improve product quality and reduce costs. COO Kumar Galhotra admitted that the company relied too heavily on automation and underestimated the value of decades of engineering experience. Vice President Charles Poon noted that AI’s effectiveness depends on the quality of data and cannot replace human expertise.
Meanwhile, Indian firms are strengthening their AI capabilities through strategic collaborations. Tech Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki India are partnering with AI firms to enhance operations and customer engagement. Tech Mahindra will deploy the Perplexity platform for real-time insights, while Maruti Suzuki has teamed up with five startups to develop innovative solutions. HCL Technologies has also signed a deal with Finland’s Neste to integrate IT services and drive AI-led transformation.
