Ram Charan and Buchi Babu Sana's film Peddi became a major box office success but also attracted controversy over the portrayal of lead actress Janhvi Kapoor. Following criticism on social media that the actress was presented merely as a glamour-focused character, the filmmakers reportedly made certain changes to a few scenes. The debate soon expanded beyond the film, with several actresses voicing concerns about the limited freedom heroines often have in selecting or shaping their roles. Many argued that creative decisions are largely controlled by filmmakers, expressing support for Janhvi Kapoor amid the discussion.
Amid the ongoing debate, director Nandini Reddy shared her perspective during a recent interview. She stated that she does not agree with the claim that actresses have no freedom in choosing their roles. According to her, actors are informed about their characters during script discussions and make their decisions before signing projects. She noted that many actresses have openly rejected roles they were not comfortable with. Nandini Reddy emphasized that blaming filmmakers alone is unfair, as artists ultimately make their own professional choices. Her comments have since generated significant discussion across social media platforms.
