The United States has shown no signs of backing down on the travel restrictions imposed on Iran’s national football team during the FIFA World Cup. Despite Iran warning that it would raise the issue with FIFA over what it describes as discriminatory treatment, US officials have maintained that there will be no reversal of the decision. White House Task Force Executive Director Andrew Giuliani defended the restrictions, stating that the measures were introduced to manage logistical arrangements efficiently.
Iran’s coach and captain recently expressed frustration over the directives requiring the team to leave the United States after completing its scheduled matches. They argued that the restrictions amounted to unfair treatment and threatened to lodge a formal complaint with FIFA. However, US authorities insist that the policy remains appropriate and necessary. Giuliani confirmed that discussions are ongoing regarding transportation logistics and said Iran’s squad would be moved out of the country after its match against Belgium, in accordance with the existing plan.
