Government Working for the Welfare of Fishermen - Minister Vakiti Srihari

The Telangana government is committed to the welfare of fishermen, strengthening fisheries cooperatives, improving infrastructure, and promoting the fisheries sector, said Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, Fisheries, Youth Services & Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari. Addressing a meeting with district fisheries cooperative society presidents and promoters, he said the government is working to expand fish farming across 26,000 ponds and 100 reservoirs in the state. Plans are also being prepared to provide insurance, mopeds, and retail fish outlets for fishermen.

The minister announced that review meetings with fisheries cooperative representatives would be held once every three months to address their concerns. He assured that the free fish seed distribution scheme would continue and that pending dues would be cleared on priority. The government is also examining the inclusion of fish in the mid-day meal scheme to improve students' nutrition. He added that the Integrated Fish Market at Koheda would enable online fish sales after completion, while insurance claims worth ₹1.34 crore have already been settled.
