Music composer Ilaiyaraaja suffered a setback in the Delhi High Court in the copyright dispute over the ownership of songs from 134 films. The court rejected his plea seeking to vacate the interim injunction issued earlier, allowing the existing interim order to remain in force. In the case, music label Saregama claimed ownership of the copyright for songs from the 134 films, while Ilaiyaraaja argued that he also holds rights over the compositions he created.
After hearing both sides, the Delhi High Court observed that there was no need to modify or vacate the interim order at this stage. The court clarified that the interim directions will continue until the final hearing and judgment in the case. Legal experts believe the verdict could have a significant impact on copyright ownership and music rights in the Indian entertainment industry.
